The Wausaukee High School HI-Q team got a fire truck escort back to school Wednesday, March 30 after it won the national HI-Q championship.
 
Wausaukee claimed title by scoring 61 points to defeat three other teams in the academic quiz competition. Wausaukee led in the close match most of the way.

  Garnet Valley High School in Pennsylvania finished second with 53 points, Alma Bryant High School in Alabama finished third with 36 points and Monroe High School in Washington was fourth with 32.

  The competition took place in a classroom at UW Marinette. Wausaukee was connected with the other teams in their home states using video link technology.

  The members of Wausaukee’s HI-Q national championship team are: Brooke Arndt, Beau DeLaet, Brett Edlbeck, Joe Jaworski, Cutler Lewandowski, Staci Sturmer, Caitlyn Tracy, and Brooke Wickman. The team advisors are Jennifer Klimek and Suzie Schlies.

Wausaukee qualified to compete in the national HI-Q championship match when it won the local championship earlier this month. Eighteen teams from Northeast Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula participated in that competition.



It was the first time Wausaukee won the local title and national championship.

  This was the first time a national HI-Q championship match was staged since 1981. A team from Marinette Catholic Central High School traveled to Pennsylvania to compete in that event and finished in third place.

  Established in 1948, Hi-Q is the oldest continuing academic quiz competition for high school students in the United States. This was the 35th year of local competition.

  The local sponsors of HI-Q are Farmers & Merchants Bank & Trust, Kimberly-Clark Corp. and UW Marinette.

03/30/11 - More good Hi-Q news: (link to video provided by Everett College is below...)

Wausaukee High School Hi-Q team won the national Hi-Q title today by scoring more points that their 3 national challengers.

Scores were as follows:

1st Place - Wisconsin- Wausaukee High School - 61 Points
3rd Place - Alabama- Alma Bryant High School - 36 Points
2nd Place - Pennsylvania- Garnet Valley High School - 53 Points
4th Place - Washington- Monroe High School - 32 Points

Linda Wilke just reported that the Wausaukee Hi-Q team was getting a Fire Truck Escort back to school.

Congrats to all teams who competed in the National Hi-Q Championships today via video conference.

 03/22/11 - This just in from Linda Wilke:

  A BIG congratulations to Wausaukee who based on final scores finished 1st.   They will be competing in a National HI-Q Championship on March 30th (via video conferencing.)  Wausaukee will be in the first spot for this competition based on their score of 61 points in the final contest and 110 points Championship -two match total. 

Based on championship scores, this should be the team “positions” for the National Championship:
1.    Wisconsin- Wausaukee High School
2.    Alabama- Alma Bryant High School
3.    Pennsylvania- Garnet Valley High School
4.    Washington- Monroe High School
